Thank you – reminders – next week

Dear Singers!
Thank you for a great rehearsal. We were able to read through the entire Credo and get through all the Marian motets – no small feat.
Reminder: next week I will begin with Illuminare (SA singers) at 7:30p. I know we have some occasional countertenors in the group as well. If you’re interested in singing countertenor, feel free to join us. I will spend that rehearsal working 3 and 4 part balance. Bring Jesu Rex Admirabilis and the Palestrina Magnificat Quarti Toni to that. I may have some more rep for you. Thank you also for being flexible regarding voicing. I’ve assigned some people who should be singing soprano to alto, and I am continuing to play with this.
For next week, we will work on the entire Pekiel Mass, we will begin working on our Polish pronunciation, and we will go back and do some clean-up on Palestrina. We will likely not do the Marian motets we rehearsed today, with the exception of Ave Maria – we’d like to get a good recording of that for the Polish embassy.
I will send a follow-up regarding how we might handle solos once I have thought through that process.
Some musical notes:
Pronunciation
Polish Latin cheat-sheet:
“g”=[g] (always hard g)
“gn”=[gn] (hard g, not “ny”)
“h”=[h] (it’s well-pronounced in Polish Latin)
“sc”=[sts] (it’s fast and light)
“xc”=[ksts] (eks-tsel-sees)
“ti”+vowel=[ts] (follow Italian rules)
“ch”=[like Bach] (a fast puff of air. It’s like a really hard “h”…”christe”)
“e” = always open
“o” = always open
–remember, it’s almost like Italian Latin.
Will we sing Palestrina in Polish Latin??? Well, they do in Poland. I am going to think about this!!!!
Typos in music
– I have fixed typos in the Credo
– I added some Amen words for the outer parts in the Credo: see below:

-Agnus Dei: I rechecked the accidentals. Two changes – one for bass, one for soprano. Basses, I think I mentioned last week that we’ll do a natural at m13 (to preserve the cross relation). But also: Mike pointed out that the soprano at m42 had an A-flat, so wouldn’t the basses have the same at m44….but the answer is – no, actually the A-flat at m42 in soprano was a misprint. Sopranos, that should be A-natural.
The most recent scores are online. Please continue to let me know about suggestions, questions and typos.
