Notes and announcements

Dear Singers!
Hello, and I hope you’ve had a wonderful week.
Congrats on a great first rehearsal!
Several notes for you:
  • We will go ahead with everyone starting at 7:30 on Monday 9/16 as originally scheduled, leaving a bit earlier than 10. Please plan to begin the “normal” schedule on Monday 9/23.
  • I took a closer look at the editorial accidentals in the Agnus Dei. What I put holds for now – unless the barline cancels it out, keep the editorial accidental. I edited a new copy of the Agnus Dei with more courtesy accidentals [link to Agnus Dei here], but I don’t think you need to print a new copy – you could just check what you have. The one accidental I found myself rethinking was the bass, measure 13 – I am now leaning toward removing the flat on the A to keep the cross relation. It’s often a matter of taste, and that is the one spot where I feel like it’s a little ambiguous.
  • I also changed the text underlay slightly for the altos on the Benedictus m 13. No need to print (it’s just one word), but you can check here: [Benedictus]
  • There is some more music on your Google Drive. Individual links here to print, and I will have some copies on Monday:
Our program is shaping up nicely and I am moving forward with various pieces that I had originally picked out. However, I still await a little music from Poland for Illuminare. If that music arrives soon (I thought it would be here last week – not available in the US), it will likely replace some of the Palestrina. As I mentioned at our rehearsal, the outline of our full program is:
– Marian Motets from Poland
– Pekiel Missa Brevis
– Palestrina motets
– Selections from the Polish psalter
If you are a person interested in a solo, opportunities will likely be available in the Kyrie (Christe Eleison section) and the Benedictus (ideally, sung as a solo quartet with the full choir appearing at the Hosanna). I have an additional piece for a confident solo quartet that is on the drive – Omnis Mea. It is quite beautiful. Give it a listen [link] and if this sounds like you, I’d love to hear some people give it a go.
Moving forward, and while we await our new website, I have created a blog that will be a place you can access past emails and all information. More on that very soon!!
Very much looking forward to Monday!!!
